Chapter 6 of The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

Chapter 6 is where Eckhart gets very practical. He talks about how to step out of the noise of the mind and connect with something deeper. This chapter is called The Inner Body, and for me it’s been one of the most helpful practices in learning to live more fully in the now.

In the video above, I share three big ideas from this chapter and how they’ve shaped my own experience. If something here connects with you, the video will take it even deeper. You can also find a full video for every chapter of this book here:

Inner Body

Eckhart invites us to bring awareness to the aliveness inside our bodies. He calls this the inner body. It’s the subtle sense of energy and life that we can feel when we turn our attention inward.

When I first tried this, it felt strange. My mind kept asking if I was doing it right. But the more I practiced, the more I noticed small moments of quiet awareness. Feeling the energy in my hands or feet. Sensing the breath moving in and out. These little glimpses became anchors for presence in the middle of a busy day.

This isn’t about escaping the world. It’s about inhabiting your body fully so you can meet life as it is.

Forgiveness

This chapter also touches on forgiveness in a way that surprised me. Eckhart says real forgiveness happens when we release the mental story about what someone did to us. Forgiveness is not saying what they did was okay. It’s letting go of the inner resistance that keeps us stuck in the past.

For me, this showed up in small, everyday moments. Letting go of irritation in a conversation. Choosing not to hold on to resentment when someone cut me off in traffic. Each act of forgiveness felt like setting down a weight I didn’t even realize I was carrying.

The Art of Listening

Eckhart says true listening is one of the deepest gifts we can offer. Most of us listen just enough to prepare our response. But when we listen with full presence, without judging or rehearsing, we create space for real connection.

I’ve been practicing this in my own life. Sitting with my kids and really hearing them without thinking about what I want to say. Listening to my wife with my full attention, even in the middle of a busy day. It’s amazing how much shifts when we simply stop and listen.
